Hostel Discount Card Options for Students and Youths

Hostel Discount CardFor students who often travel with limited budgets, or seeking thrills in blending with locals, hostel is a great choice to stay. However, not all student discount cards offer discounts for hostels. In order to ease the student’s journey, and thus attracting more students or youths to embark in fulfilling journeys, various international hostel organizations have issued hostel discount facilities for young travelers.

The Youth Hostel Association (YHA), which belongs to Hostelling International (HI), issues hostel discount cards as a part of a membership, and some independent country-based hostel organizations also offer discount cards.

The Youth Hostelling Association (also belongs to HI) has a governing body, the International Youth Hostel Federation, as well as hostels that have conformed standards according to HI rules. This way, students do not only enjoy the benefits offered by the discount cards, but can also expect nice, decent hostels to stay in as long as the hostels belong to HI; a little bit like hotel chains. Students can get full benefits of the YHA Hostel Discount Cards only by paying $28 for annual membership fee, including discounts and various deals.

Nomads, an Australian travel agency, issues Hostel Plus, a travel card that is good for $1 off a hostel bunk in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and London, as well as calling cards and discounts on Oz Greyhound buses and Great Southern Railway trains. The card can be obtained by a membership.

Hostels of Europe Discount Card offers a $2 discount for online hostel booking only, which means that there is no additional discount at the hostel itself. You can get one free with an ISE membership, and an ISIC card waives the $2 Hostelworld.com booking fee. The card alone is about $5 cheaper than either of those student-youth travel cards (over $20), which offer additional discounts.
